Five Sites… Five Weeks… Five Thousand Volunteers
In
2008 the Order of the Arrow and the U.S. Forest Service are
joining together to create a national program titled
ArrowCorps5 (pronounced “arrow core five”).
ArrowCorps5 is a chance for Arrowmen to perform
public service at five different U.S. National Forests across
the
United States. Each site will be offered for one week during
the summer of 2008 and each site will conduct a service
project for the National Forest ranging from trail building
and maintenance to invasive species control. Each of the five
sites and the dates for each site are listed below at the
bottom of this page.
ArrowCorps5
will be the largest service project ever undertaken by the Boy
Scouts of
America.
ArrowCorps5
will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for each participant
to set an example of leadership in service to those who
treasure our national forests.
The minimum age to participate is 14 by June 1, 2008. Both
youth and adults may participate.
You must be able to meet the Philmont Weight Limits for
Backpacking and Hiking in order to participate (see
www.scouting.org/philmont/visitors/planning/weight.html for
details). Don’t let being moderately over the weight limits
stop you from attending—use ArrowCorps5 as your
opportunity to become more “physically fit”.
You or
your son may attend the ArrowCorps5 program at any
one of the five sites or any number of the sites. The cost to
attend each week will be $250 (which includes food) plus
travel expenses as well as personal gear including tentage. A
$100 deposit is due by January and we strongly encourage that
you pay this fee as soon as possible. More details will
follow for those that express interest at the meeting.
You
or your son may travel on your own or with separate lodge
contingents currently being planned to both the Mark Twain
site in Missouri by ground travel (at an approximate travel
cost of $125) and to the Bridger-Teton Site in Wyoming by air
travel (at an approximate travel cost of $850). Please note
that all youth must travel to and from their respective sites
either with a parent or legal guardian or under travel
arrangements meeting BSA standards (tour permits, two-deep
leadership, Guide to Safe Scouting, youth protection
guidelines, etc.). If you wish to take part at a site other
than Mark Twain or Bridger-Teton the lodge will assist with
your travel plans, including putting you in contact with other
OA lodges in our area, if desired.

projects to be conducted at each,
